The term graffiti is classically interpreted as any writing on the wall. In that sense of definition, graffiti is an ancient art and existed as early as the time of ancient Greece and Rome. It is common knowledge that various old, both classical and neoclassical scriptures have been found on the inner walls of various caves around the world. This fact refers to the ancient existence of graffiti and its various styles. Writing on walls (read graffiti) is generally considered as a crime in most parts of the world and comes with minor and, at times, major punishments. Various graffiti styles have often been used to convey different types of social, political, and socio political messages.

There are various styles of graffiti writing that hold some importance and are in practice in the modern scenario. These numerous styles have evolved over the years and each style has a legend of its own. One of the oldest styles of graffiti writing is the tag style. The style was initially used in the peak era and was extremely effective. The tag style of graffiti writing is immensely popular owing to the fact that it is extremely easy to copy. The style can also be implemented and written in a quick and fast manner. The tag style is normally used as a signature by the graffiti artiste and thus contains his or her name. The signature of the artiste gets him instant recognition owing to the fact that the signature works as the publicizing agent for the graffiti artiste.

Another very popular style of graffiti writing is the throw up style. This method is generally preferred for graffiti writing owing to the fact that this method is quick and that it renders the entire text or design looking good. The writing style consists of the text written in one color and then highlighting the boundaries of the text with another color. The style is quick and efficient. The blockbuster graffiti style is used majorly on large areas. The various alphabets that form a part of the word are spread out evenly on the entire length of the board and have proper spacing between them. The letters are all normally written in the upper case. This style is often done only on relatively large surfaces like that of a train.

A very popular graffiti writing style is the wild style graffiti. Just as the name suggests, the styling of the text is in a “wild” manner. The text is blended to a large extent and is decorated at length. This decoration along with the blend makes the entire style very difficult to read and comprehend. Besides these styles, there are various other graffiti writing styles that are slowly and gradually gaining in popularity. Some of these styles include the shadow style, the puzzle graffiti writing style, the softy letter style, the wiggles graffiti style, and the Chinese graffiti style. There are numerous other types of graffiti writing styles that are also steadily gaining in popularity.
